Our Work
The Filipino Association of Denmark (FAD), has been active in serving the community in different ways. The FAD Board of Directors consists of six committed individuals, who each specialise in their field of expertise.
The FAD has spearheaded many activities within different social areas. Our annual social event, the Barrio Fiesta has been attended by the thousands and has been a successful festivity offering wholesome entertainment, food stalls and fun activities for all ages. Each year, we also celebrate the independence of the Philippines with party in one of Copenhagen’s finest hotels. We have had an annual children’s Christmas party complete with gifts and candy bags - these are of course given to them by Santa himself. It’s a great day for the whole family. The FAD had in the past also hosted a sports weekend complete with a bowling tournament and a 2 day basketball full court event. The chess club was revived for a while but did not proceed due to lack of players, however, quite a few people have inquired for the reopening of this activity.
In the recent years, there have been more than 2,000 Filipino au pairs in Denmark, and with this new influx of people there will also be concerns to address. Issues of abuse and misinterpretations of the true meaning of an au-pair are the great hurdles that our community has to face. The FAD has taken this predicament very seriously and has taken action on different fronts. The launching of the FAD brochure last October has been a great success, due to the fact that it is being used by several government institutions and contact centres all over the country. These brochures are a way to get in touch with new Filipinos in Denmark, whether you are a seaman or an au pair.
We have had many activities and projects in the recent years, some activities have been more successful than others. However it is more important that the eagerness and aspiration to have these projects carried out is present. We are proud to say that the willingness is there and it grows for each time we proceed with an activity. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our sponsors and to all the volunteers that have pitched in during our activities.
Salamat sa inyo at mabuhay tayong lahat.
